Super Silica

Founded by Mr. Shajir Ahmed, son of Super Group founder Mr. Salim Ahmed, Super Silica Bangladesh Ltd (SSBL) is the first Agro-Based waste (Rice Husk Ash – RHA) based Sodium Silicate manufacturing plant in Chattogram, Bangladesh. RHA, a rich source of Silica, is a by-product of rice mills that generally stockpiles as waste due to lack of usage.

In addition, during the production of Sodium Silicate, a carbon by-product called “Super Bio-Char”. Bio-Char is a part of the composting process and is used as a farming nutrient to help increase yield of the farmer’s produce. 

Once Biochar is formulated, SSBL aims to contribute to the rural economy by offering an affordable farming nutrient alternative to the rural farmers in Bangladesh. In return, making SSBL a unique Sodium Silicate producer with zero-waste manufacturing process.

Sustainable Development Goals

Circular Economy

As defined by the United Nations, circular economy is “a new way of creating value, and ultimately prosperity, through extending product lifespan and relocating waste from the end of the supply chain to the beginning – in effect, using resources more efficiently by using them more than once”.

SSBL eliminates and converts waste into an essential raw material that can be used by numerous industries. Further, it also converts its by-products into high quality value-adding material for cosmetic, construction and agricultural industry. In totality, SSBL visions to create a zero-waste industry that positively correlates with the true concept of a circular economy aiming to eliminate waste through “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” (Sustainable Development Goal-No 9).

By procuring RHA from more than 100 mills, the mill-owners and the people related to them are now able to put their land to more productive use that was previously used for stockpiling the waste RHA. Further, our involvement with the mills have positively impacted the lives of many directly and many more indirectly through employment, skill development and “Decent Work and Economic Growth” (Sustainable Development Goal – No 8).
